Fashion Focus Meeting Minutes
December 9, 2023

We had a fun meeting.  No specific program, but great food, fellowship and wonderful shares.

Laura S. shared with the group two books that she thought others might enjoy reading.  The first,  “Worn—A People’s History of Clothing” by Sofi Thanhauser, covers the history of clothing and fabric,  and “The Complete Book of Sewing Short Cuts”  by Claire Schaeffer, which reviews the shortcuts used in the fashion industry.

Alice gave an update on Tufts, the longarm quilt and fabric store at Regency Mall. The store offers fabrics for quilts, apparel and bags.

Alice shared the rough draft of our yearly calendar.  It was decided that everyone would make the same piece of apparel and share techniques for success throughout the year.

Leslie E. shared her latest discovery—an overlock extension table that can be used with a serger to assist when sewing cover and chain stitches.

We had some great shares shown below:

Dana P with her blue Fabric Covered Rope Bowl from Wendy B.'s class  for ASG

Diane W made personalized Christmas stockings, part of a set including table runner, tree and pinecone ornaments

Val S in a beautiful velvet poncho with a lovely drape.

Paula J. models a wool embroidered vest with side panels, a modified Sandra Betzina pattern.

Andrea S. wears her lovely green knit sweater with gathered sleeves.  She also made a creative tulle skirt with decorative stitching from waist to hem.

Val S. displays her coordinating set of three zippered pouches

Alice models her Grainline Archer shirt.

Cynthia wears her festive Christmas sweater which doubles as her birthday sweater as she was born in December.  Happy Birthday, Cynthia!

Nancy K made a gorgeous, embroidered Christmas quilt and allowed her grandchildren to help!

Adrienne B. displays a pouch she made in a recent seminar which features vinyl inserts for storage.

Adrienne B holds her beautiful handmade denim flower as part of her “Lady Sings the Blue” couture collection
