Happy Feet Quilted Sneakers

Saturday, February 17th was a busy day at St. Matthews Episcopal Church as 16 women tried their hand at constructing a pair of quilted sneakers using traditional shoemaking techniques.  Each member used a fabric of their choice and made a quilted sandwich prior to coming to class.  Soles and insoles in pre-ordered sizes, a pattern, waxed shoemaker thread, a saddlers' needle, a sharp stiletto, and a hard thimble were provided to each participant. Then the fun began!

The pattern for the upper and toe/tongue were cut, binding was attached,  then holes were punched so they could be matched up with the holes in the soles.  Eyelets in many colors were chosen then applied to the uppers.  The uppers and toe/tongues were stitched to the soles.  Shoelaces in so may hues and tones were available to finish off the creations!

Landscape Collage Quilts

ASG Member and quilter Linda Boone brought numerous bags of fabric, examples of 8 x 10 Landscape Collage Quilts for inspiration, and shared all the details for making our own work of art. Over twenty ladies got busy choosing fabrics and placing them on a foundation fabric. Just check out some of the beauties below.

A Day of Creativity With Fit for Art Patterns

We had a very successful event with Fit for Art patterns on Saturday, Dec 3 in Charlottesville.  The venue was fantastic. Thanks to the 30 attendees who came from Richmond, Charlottesville and Northern VA areas to spend the day playing with fabrics, yarns, threads and being very creative.  Rae and Carrie inspired us with their samples and a trunk show of their garments showcasing the techniques we were learning. A big THANK YOU to our members who dedicated a lot of their time to making this event so successful; Julie Bowersett, Ann-Marie Schare, Lisa Stewart and Dianne Waller.
